This is one of the most historically authentic and exclusively located vacation homes on the Sacramento River! Shasta Retreat dates into the 1800’s and this home was built at the turn of the century. It is still one of the most beautiful homes in Dunsmuir. It blends into the trees and feels tucked away on the bank of the river. You can lay in bed in the downstairs Queen bed and watch the river ripple by. Serve tea in the living room, sip wine in front of the fireplace, or serve lemonade on the porch while tying flies. Tie flies on the front Porch, or serve.
A well stocked library is found in the second of two upstairs bedrooms, each with a Queen Bed. They share the second bathroom which has a shower. On cool nights enjoy the Jacuzzi Tub in the downstairs bathroom. The Kitchen is modern and completely furnished and the BBQ is just out the door, inside the tiny back yard. A laundry room with a washer and a dryer, and mud room which opens to the carport. This house is full of precious items and pictures that take time to discover. For example, there is a complete collection of postcards of the old Shasta Springs when it was in its heyday. And here is a secret that even most native Dunsmuir folk don’t know. Out the door , across the street, and 20 yards up the hill are the two naturally carbonated soda water springs, still flowing, that supplied water for the Shasta Retreat bottling company. It makes GREAT lemonade - coincidentally, it also mixes well with the blended scotches.
