Happy New Year Friends!
My two ditches dug,
My two ditches dug. “
Which isn’t going to happen because this song is being drowned out by a host of the multitudes singing “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” We are pretty happy whichever way it goes. The ditches are for piping for the new solar panels which won’t be all that effective in a snow storm anyway. SNOW is for skiers and snowboarders! The motel is pretty jolly with lots of those folks around.
Amazing year really. Business was just fine. Added three new units; Oak, Elm, and Alder, which are open year round. We are finishing up the solar thermal system for the pool and spa which we can expand later. It is possible to book online now, but we much prefer phone calls. Odd, but when someone books online, we feel a little rejected. They didn’t want to talk to us. It’s like the Grinch just stole the ribbons off the package.
This summer folks in town decided we needed to get some new businesses open here, so we formed a committee with the goal of four new businesses by 2012. We are still focused on that goal, but four new businesses jumped the gun this year. The best of which is the Dunsmuir Brewery, but that might just be a personal preference. “ Pusher Pale Ale” and “Blood, Sweat, and Tears IPA” (India Pale Ale for the un inebriated) are my kind of lunches but the food served at DB puts Dunsmuir ahead of San Francisco in the Great Restaurants per Capita category. (only 1923 people here) And, this is your official invitation. If you ever wanted to open a business, now is the time and Dunsmuir is the place. People are here to help you. The city is initiating up to $15 million in infrastructure, sewer and water, upgrades. Stimulus money is becoming available finally. And you just might be looking for an excuse to live here already!
One of these years, I may write about how I am the one in my family who has gone back to school. But as of next month, I am the only one who isn’t in school. Again. Working. Home alone. Regressing to dumbness. Any sympathy yet? Didn’t think so. So, Belinda is a MFA candidate at Chico and teaching a class as well; Shannamar – PhD in Biology plan at Davis; D’arcy is second year Law School also at Davis; and Cabus who is marrying Megan –Psych Major at Sac State, is starting work on a construction (mostly green) degree as well as maintaining his maintenance business in Sac. Mom and Dad, Lois and Bob to most of you, are ready to move south for the winter - all the way to their second home in Redding. I am waxing on the shovels and waxing off the turkey sandwiches. We are prepping for folks sending in their sumway better than being in a rut. Life is good.
Hope this letter finds you all well and having a very Happy Holiday!
